This past Sunday 8 Gordon Central Juniors and Seniors participated in Moody's Mega Math Challenge, a nationwide math modeling contest for high school juniors and seniors. Through their participation, the students experienced what it was like to work under certain time and resource constraints similar to those faced by professional mathematicians working in industry. The students voluntarily spent 14 consecutive hours of their weekend at the Gordon County College and Career Academy gathering data and information, documenting and justifying their assumptions, and then using this mathematical modeling to find a solution to a real world challenge problem. This contest also gave these incredible students the opportunity to work together as a team, utilizing their unique problem solving and critical thinking skills.
