Congratulations to Mrs. Renee Hughes, Teacher of the Year for Gordon Central High. School.  A native of Marietta, Georgia and graduate of Berry College in Rome, Georgia, Mrs. Hughes began her teaching career in 1997 at Pepperell High School before moving to Calhoun upon her marriage to Alan Hughes, also a teacher at Gordon Central.  She teaches A.P. U.S. History, Economics, and U.S. History in addition to being the Department Chair for the Social Studies Department.  Mrs. Hughes also coaches Extemporaneous Speech for Literary, is an advisor for Youth Leadership, acts as a co-advisor for Chik Fil-A Leader Academy, and assists with National Honor Society.  What Mrs. Hughes enjoys most about teaching at Gordon Central are the relationships she has formed over the years with her students and her colleagues.  “Gordon Central High School is my home; the Warriors are my family.”  When not at school Mrs. Hughes enjoys spending time with her husband Alan and their three children, Catherine, Harrison, and Victoria.
